This photo gives a sense of scale to the size of the rocks in Rocktown.

The Rocktown trail, right at 2 miles, is easy to hike and very open. The sights along the sides of the trail are just a taste of what you'll find inside.

About 200 million years ago this area was part of the ancient Atlantic Ocean. As the water receded, gullies and canyons were left behind. This is most evident in areas like Cloudland Canyon.
Rocktown is a result of the receding waters of the Atlantic. However, there are no gullies or canyons here. Rocktown is comprised of enormous sculpted rocks which look as if they belong somehwere out West.  The retreating waters washed away the majority of the limestone in the area, leaving only the harder base rocks.  Words can't do justice to the scale and size of these rocks.
Rocktown is a highly visited area, despite it's location. It's a favorite among rock climbers, as the hard edged rocks provide ideal surfaces for practicing climbers.
